Spent three weeks volunteering for A Drop in the Ocean at the Skaramangas refugee camp. I worked 6 days a week, 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday, and 10 am to 2 pm on Saturdays.

About the camp: https://www.drapenihavet.no/en/locations-2/athens/

The Skaramangas camp is not an "emergency camp" like the one in Lesvos, so the conditions are slightly better (refugees live in containers rather than tents). There are many families with small children in the camp. A Drop in the Ocean provides activities and clothes for the refugees in the camp.

As a volunteer, I assisted in running the activities, including:

– Women and Baby Space (my role was to clean and prepare the room for each day, provide milk and diapers, and hang out with the women and their kids).

– Kids activities (my role was to arrange various activities for the kids and play with them).

– Sewing room (my role was to distribute fabrics and tidy up).

– Drop Shop (the Drop Shop is a clothing shop where the refugees can "shop" for (donated) clothes (using points they are given). My role was to work in the shop, usually in check-out, and also with sorting clothes).

– Library/flex (my role was to help out in the library or wherever I was needed).

I also helped painting the walls in the Women and Baby Space one Saturday.

I usually assisted in two different activities each day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
